In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return.
“When a scholar dies, an irreparable breach is created in Islam which nothing can fill.”
The passing of the distinguished jurist, Godly scholar, and eminent Marja‘ al-Taqlid of the Shi‘a world, Ayatollah al-Uzma Haj Sayyid Musa Shubairi Zanjani — may Allah elevate his noble station — is a profound tragedy for the seminaries, the Shi‘a world, and the entire Islamic scholarly and religious community.
This eminent jurist attained a distinguished position in the contemporary school of Islamic scholarship and jurisprudence. He devoted his entire scholarly life to research, meticulous investigation, profound understanding of religious teachings, and the preservation of the intellectual and transmitted heritage of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them). His deep scholarly insight, rigorous research in jurisprudential matters, extensive study of primary sources, profound mastery of the sciences of al-Rijal and Hadith, and dedicated preservation of the authentic heritage of narrations earned him a prominent place among the great scholars and researchers of Shi‘a jurisprudence.
The passing of such a towering scholarly personality is not merely the loss of a great scholar and jurist; rather, it is the departure of one of the strong pillars of contemporary scholarship and ijtihad. He was among those distinguished scholars in whom jurisprudence and piety, research and humility, scholarly depth and purity of character, and religious authority and asceticism were beautifully united.
The scholarly legacy of the late Ayatollah Shubairi Zanjani—including his research works, contributions to the sciences of al-Rijal and Hadith, studies in jurisprudence and Usul al-Fiqh, as well as his students and scholarly associates—is a precious asset for the Islamic seminaries and an enduring intellectual heritage for future generations. His passing therefore represents not only the loss of a great jurist and Marja‘ al-Taqlid, but also the loss of a guardian of the scholarly heritage of jurisprudence and an important link in the luminous chain through which, for centuries, the intellectual heritage of ijtihad, Hadith, al-Rijal, and the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) has been transmitted from one generation to another.
The Office of the Representative of the Supreme Leader in India extends its heartfelt condolences on this grievous occasion to Imam al-Mahdi, the Proof of Allah, may our souls be sacrificed for his sake; His Eminence Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Khamenei, may Allah preserve him; the Grand Maraji‘ al-Taqlid; the Islamic seminaries throughout the world; the esteemed scholars, teachers and students; and all the believers and devotees of the School of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).
We also extend our sincere condolences on this painful occasion to his esteemed sons, who themselves are recognized among distinguished figures of knowledge and scholarship, as well as to his respected family and the members of his noble household, who for many years witnessed closely and benefited from the scholarly, spiritual, and moral life of this Godly scholar. We pray to Almighty Allah to grant all the bereaved family members patience, fortitude, and abundant reward.
We beseech Almighty Allah to envelop the pure soul of this great jurist in His infinite mercy, to resurrect him alongside the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his progeny) and the Imams of Guidance (peace be upon them), to elevate his ranks, and to grant the Islamic seminaries success and divine grace in preserving his scholarly and moral legacy and carrying forward his path.
May Allah have mercy upon our departed jurist, resurrect him with Muhammad and the progeny of Muhammad, and make his knowledge, deeds, and righteous آثار a source of light for him in the world of Barzakh and on the Day of Resurrection.
